Bamboo Kitchens

Choose a sustainable kitchen

A natural, durable and sustainable bamboo kitchen offers several advantages over other materials and will last for years.

The kitchen is a focal point and important part of every home. When designing a kitchen it is important to choose materials that fit in well with the design of the house. Bamboo benchtops and cabinetry bring a warm, natural element into the kitchen and are loved as a durable and rock-hard material, that looks great too. Plantation Bamboo offers several possibilities to add bamboo to your kitchen design with this versatile and sustainable material.

As New Zealand’s only specialist bamboo importer, we can offer our range of bamboo flooring and panels for kitchen applications, direct to customers nationwide.

Bamboo benchtops

The benchtop or countertop is where the work is done in the kitchen, so the material used needs to be hard and durable.

This is why bamboo is loved as a fast-growing, sustainable alternative to all kinds of other materials and scores particularly well when a natural look and a hard material are desired.

A Plantation Bamboo panel (in either vertical or compressed format) is very suitable to be made into a benchtop.

As with timber, you can determine the appearance with a finish of your choice, as the bamboo cuts and finishes beautifully, with a waterproof oil, lacquer, or polyurethane of your choosing.

Our range of bamboo panels offer several possibilities to create a bamboo benchtop with advantages over other materials.

Bamboo cabinetry

Bamboo panels are available in a range of sizes, colours and types – providing some great options for cupboard doors, drawers, and other kitchen cabinetry. Compared to timber, bamboo is very stable and provides a hard, natural look and finish. The multi-layer ply construction gives strength and stability and also provides a unique edge-grain effect.

Bamboo shelving

Bamboo panels can be transformed into beautiful and versatile kitchen shelving solutions. Floating shelves are a popular product of bamboo panels, made all the more effective by the range of cutting and finishing options available now – adding colour, depth (through routing etc) to enhance the bamboo’s natural beauty.

"I Just took delivery of the bench-tops and just wanted to let you know that the samples do no justice to the full panel - they are amazing!!!!!! Thank you so much for your help and guidance.

Aesthetically the natural bamboo worked because of its light colour and laminated edge detail. Practically it worked for the stair and benchtop because it is so hard (as hard as Jarrah). Environmentally it felt good using a product that is as renewable and hard wearing as bamboo.

Bamboo flooring

Kitchen floors need to be able to handle dropped food, spills and lots of activity. A bamboo floor, especially hard, compressed bamboo flooring is very suitable for the kitchen – it’s easy to keep clean, can handle some “treatment”. Plus, our bamboo panels and flooring complement each other wonderfully for a stylish kitchen.

Flexbamboo – for a feature

Flexbamboo is an economical, aesthetical and healthy finishing material that can be used for walls, ceilings, cabinets, furniture and more.

Flexbamboo is the name for our flexible bamboo covering material: instead of gluing & pressing bamboo strips for solid bamboo panels, the 2mm thick strips are connected by fabric on the backside. In this way, beautiful (and curved) surfaces can be created.

Extremely hard and durable

Moso bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth. The bamboo stems grow from an underground root system and after 5 years a stem can be harvested, while the others continue to grow. This means the bamboo can be used without destroying the forest. After harvesting, the Moso bamboo stems are split and the outer skin is removed. The strips naturally have a light yellow colour (natural), but can be steamed for a light brown colour (coffee). After treating and drying, the strips are ready to be joined in several ways to make the final product. After production and finishing, the bamboo panel or floor is stronger and harder than almost any other wood.
